Q&A Sessions - If you are new to triathlon or Lake to Lake, please plan on attending the pre-race meeting at 4 pm on Friday at packet pickup. We will have info concerning all the event categories~ Olympic~ Sprint~Relays~ Aquabike. This is a great time to ask specific questions about the event; course, venue, rules, newbie info..etc. We will have Jake Bamforth doing a Q&A about the race and course.
If you are not able to attend this meeting, please feel free to contact any time before the event. We will also have staff at all pre-race activities to answer any questions you may have.
Waves/Start Times - Your wave and start times will also be emailed to you prior to packet pickup from our registration company; this info is typically in your email on Thursday of race week.
Race Day: Saturday, June 21st
Packet pickup begins at 5:15 am in the LHS cafeteria.
Transition area opens at 5:15 am
Parking: in west and east lots adjacent to LHS — access from 29th/Beech or 29th/Custer. West parking lot fills up first, but there is plenty of parking in the east lot.
Athletes only in the transition area.
LAKE TO LAKE PARTICIPANTS: Athletes~ transition area for Lake to Lake athletes will close at 6:45.
First wave will enter the water at 7:00, allow yourself time to set up and warm-up prior to your wave start. The number of waves will be determined by participant numbers~ you will receive an email by Thursday of race week which will include your wave and start time. 8:30 cut-off for the swim- if you did not make the cut-off time for the swim, we would encourage you to complete the remainder of the event. Gauge your training and swim time- for example- the last wave will likely enter the water by 7:20. This timeline would allow a swimmer 70 minutes to complete 1,600 yards. If you can average 4 minutes per 100 yards, you will make the cut-off.
Please be at the race venue no later than 6:30 am, detours and road closures will be in place by 7:00 am. Park in the east lot of Loveland High School. Packet pickup will be in the LHS cafeteria. You will have a designated area in transition. Transition area will close for SPRNT athletes at 7 am. Allow yourself time to set up and warm up. The first wave enters the water at 7:20. The number of waves will be determined by participant numbers, 50-75 swimmers per wave. Cut-off for the swim is 8:30. Gauge your training and swim time-example- last wave in the water by 7:40. This timeline would allow swimmers 50 minutes to complete 750 yards. If you average 4-5 minutes per 100 yards, you will make the cut-off.
SPRINT COMPETITORS - you will have a designated area in transition.
Arrive at the event venue by 6:30, and first wave in the water at 7:30.
AQUABIKE: You will have designated bike racks in the transition area.
Your race will end at the finish line, not in transition after the cycling portion. Exit transition at the “RUN EXIT” there will be cones/ volunteers to direct you to the finish line.
RELAYS: Relays will have a designated area in the transition area. Swimmers will exit the water and run to the transition area where the cyclist is waiting at the bike rack — the runner will, in turn, be at bike rack waiting for the cyclist to return. The team will have one timing chip on a Velcro strap which you must “hand off” after each leg is completed. Strap this chip to your ankle.
CYCLISTS: The southbound lane from Harmony/Taft Hill Road south to Wilson and 50th will be closed to traffic during the Lake to Lake race — so we must impose a 10:30am cut-off for cyclists entering this portion of the course.
10:30 cut-off will primarily affect Olympic distance triathletes. Please understand that a cut-off time is necessary as we have arranged detours and road closures which can inconvenience traffic for a limited time. The cut-off will be at 10:30 at the intersection of Harmony/ Taft Hill Road, approximately 9 miles from T2. If you exit swim @ 8:30 you will need to travel 20 miles in 2 hours. Our goal is to provide an ample timeline for all athletes to complete bike course, but as stated above, we must impose a cut off. Typically, all the cyclists have returned to transition (T2) by 10:15.
POST-RACE MEAL: Participants are encouraged to hang out after the race and enjoy a post-race meal and awards. We encourage you to visit our sponsors during this time. Without sponsors, events wouldn’t happen!
Meal Tickets - Extra Meal Tickets can be purchased for $10.50 each ($5.00 for 6 and under), and this is REAL FOOD folks. Extra meal tickets can be purchased on race day or when you register. Athletes meal is included in the race entry fee.
If you cannot stay to receive your award, it can be mailed to you for $8.50. Contact the Race Director after the event.
Volunteers – All events need numerous volunteers to run a safe and organized event. Some local youth organizations will be benefiting from this event and helping run the race, but there is always need for more volunteers! If you would like to volunteer and enjoy a free lunch and T-shirt, email Sara McWatters.
